Music Selection: “Tokyo Girl” by Ace of Base
A geisha was a professional hostess in Japanese culture. They could dance, sing, dance, converse, and play music. Many believe that the geisha was a high-priced prostitute but that is not necessarily true. There were courtesans that served in that capacity. I’m not saying that they never had sexual relations with their clients, but it was not their function. They generally entertained men and were well compensated for their time. In Vietnam there was a similar establishment that served tea to lonely soldiers. Those places were called Saigon Tea Parlors, but those girls did not hold the elite status of the geisha even though their job was to entertain men.
There have been too many women in my life that never seemed to find a good man. They fluttered around like butterflies and played the geisha with the wrong men. They had children and cannot understand why their daughters are make the same poor choices in men they did. There are men that think nothing of using women and there are women that only see a man as a meal ticket. In many cases the woman or the man are looking in the wrong places for a solid partner. They want a saint and always find themselves with a sinner. It is said that the sins of the father will fall upon the son, but I believe the sins of the mother can also fall upon the daughters. Look deep in this painting and you will see more than two female figures because relationships are never a one-way street.
