I like painting scenes with a lot of character interaction. I rode the bus for a while, and it gave me time to study the faces of my fellow riders. No one spoke to anyone, but there was a story written on each and every face. I also like to elongate facial features. El Greco was a master at stretching the body’s proportions. I really love his work. This was an early experiment with grouping people. There are several stories colliding at one moment in time in this work. A woman getting hit on, and a priest consoling a lost soul. A girl with no self-esteem. Someone addicted to drugs. What do see? Are there more stories. This painting is about city life. I’ve lived in small towns and in large cities. This is a city story.
