This was painted for sister to decorate her home. This is one of couple paintings that were purely created for decoration. This was the reason that painting became popular in the first place. Its purpose is to brighten your living space. If I painted for money, this is the type of art I would produce. Having said that I could not resist twisting the illusion to make it more interesting.

This was an experimental piece. It is a still life offset by geometric shapes. I believe that to be a true work of art the piece should not be totally abstract. I have painted abstracts and enjoyed painting them. It is only my belief that in the midst of the painting there should be a recognizable object. This simply shows that the artist has some skill. Willian De Kooning painted exaggerated abstract work, but before he went totally abstract, he was a good portrait painter. Too many so-called artists have no real skills and simply slap heavily layered paint on canvas and expect the art community to praise their work. Even Jackson Pollack’s early work showed the ability to portray realistic objects. My thoughts are if you’re not a highly skilled painter at least make your paintings interesting. I shoot for interesting.
